An access log is a thorough list of all the files which were accessed by the visitors of a certain website. Every single file which was requested for some reason will be listed, so if you have just one webpage with three embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, for instance, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for any of the 6 files that were accessed when the visitor opened the webpage. A log typically contains the file name and path, the date, as well as the visitor’s Operating System, web browser and IP address. In some cases you could also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The info which an access log file provides is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the performance of a site, aside from the web stats that your web hosting server may have created.
Access Log Manager in Hosting
If you order a hosting from our company, you'll be able to choose if access logs should be generated and for which domains or subdomains in your account this should be done. You can enable this option from the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia Control Panel, included with all shared accounts. Each domain you host or subdomain you set up will be listed there and you will see an On/Off option next to each one of them, so you can effortlessly enable or deactivate the generation of access logs independently for every single website that you have. You can save a log to your PC by clicking on the Download link that you'll see in the exact same section of the Control Panel. The link will be available even if you disable the log generation, so you will still have access to the data gathered by our system.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it will not take more than several mouse clicks to enable the generation of access logs by our system if you require them. The feature may be activated from the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and this could be done separately for each and every domain or subdomain you have inside your account. After you log in and navigate to the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you will discover a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each one. A single click shall activate the log generation and a second one will deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great simplicity. A Download link in the same section will permit you to save the compiled content as a text file, that you could then use on your notebook or computer. Whether or not the logs are disabled, you will still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
